Partitioning disk for OSX - how/recommendations?
If your partitioned your disk correctly for Linux, you shouldn't see any partition showing up in Win98 as a drive "D". Linux uses an entirely different file system than Win98, called ext2. Make sure that when you are partitioning your drive, you set up the Linux partitions to be ext2, which, I believe is type 83.

My system consists of a Raptor 75GB single partition vista boot disk and a second 500GB single partition data disk. Both formatted in NTFS. It sounds like I needn't worry about dividing up the 500GB drive into any more than a single partition then. Thanks. -- londonblue -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop

So you *must* partition it. Your question is really should you have more than one partition on it. There is no "optimal," and it's entirely up to you. The only thing you need to know is that if you want to boot from the OS 9.xx partition, you should partition the HD from the OS 9.xx install disk. There may be a problem booting from it if you partitioned using OS X disks. There is no problem (up to OS X.2.6) partitioning from the 9.x disk.
